Saildrone Completes World-first Uncrewed Alaska Ocean Mapping Mission

Saildrone surveyed more than 45,000 square kilometers of previously unknown ocean floor around Alaska’s Aleutian Islands and off the California coast to address ocean exploration gaps in remote areas. (March 7, 2023 – ALAMEDA, CA) – The Saildrone Surveyor, the world’s largest uncrewed ocean mapping vehicle, has completed a months-long survey around Alaska’s Aleutian Islands and off the coast of California as part of a multi-agency public-private partnership funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) to address ocean exploration gaps in remote areas with uncrewed surface vehicles (USVs).

Future USNS Apalachicola (EPF 13) completes acceptance trials

MOBILE, Ala. – On September 8, the future USNS Apalachicola (EPF 13) returned pier side having successfully completed acceptance trials for the U.S. Navy. During acceptance trials comprehensive testing is conducted on the ship’s major systems and equipment in order to demonstrate their successful operation and mission readiness. The U.S. Navy’s Board of Inspection and Survey participates throughout the trials to validate the quality of construction and compliance with U.S. Navy requirements.

AUVSI Maritime Advocacy Committee Elects New Leadership

AUVSI’s Maritime Advocacy Committee (MAC) sets the federal legislative and regulatory priorities for the association based on input and feedback from its membership. The committee develops advocacy goals and policy positions to enable all AUVSI members to speak with a unified voice on behalf of the UMS industry.    Last month, the Committee held leadership elections. Larry Ryder, Vice President of Business Development and External Affairs, Austal USA will serve as the new MAC Chair. Jenny Roberts, Vice President - Navy Fleet Requirements & Acquisition Accounts, SAIC will serve as Vice Chair for the next two years.
