Black Swift Technologies unveils American-made UAS for automated industrial and structural inspections

Black Swift Technologies (BST) has introduced its American-made, advanced UAS called the Black Swift E2, which is designed for automated industrial and structural inspections. Equipped with advanced navigation, the Black Swift E2 UAS can conduct highly accurate, up-close inspections of infrastructures even in extreme environmental conditions. Considered an intelligent drone because of its leveraging of advances in computer vision and machine learning, the UAS can complete autonomous flights when combined with an inspection payload. The UAS can safely and reliably navigate around complex structures thanks to this optional laser navigation technology, all while providing real-time actionable data to its operator.

Sonardyne acquires 2G Robotics

Sonardyne International Ltd. has acquired 2G Robotics Inc., which specializes in underwater imaging and inspection. Joining Sonardyne’s group of companies, 2G Robotics will remain an independent business and brand, and continue to serve its customer base in unmanned and autonomous underwater vehicles, as well as remotely operated vehicles. “2G Robotics has a dedicated research team and well developed product and service lines, with scope for growth,” says John Ramsden, Sonardyne’s managing director.

Skyfront, Silvus Technologies partner to produce long-range UAS

As a result of a partnership with Silvus Technologies, hybrid-electric UAS provider Skyfront has combined its five-hour endurance Perimeter UAS with Silvus’ high-power StreamCaster radios, resulting in the Perimeter XLRS, which can fly for up to five hours while maintaining command and control links and streaming real-time video up to 60 miles from the ground control station. “We are very excited to be partnering with Silvus Technologies to bring long-range aerial platforms into the mainstream,” says Troy Mestler, CEO of Skyfront.

Flyability opens first U.S. office in Denver

To continue its rapid expansion into U.S. markets and offer more robust support to customers and partners, Swiss drone company Flyability has opened its first U.S. office in Denver, Colorado. Known for its Elios 2 drone for indoor inspections, Flyability says that the new office in Denver will allow it to provide “timely, more localized support to U.S. customers and partners, as well as continue to strengthen and develop strategic partnerships throughout the country and surrounding areas.”

Aerodyne Group acquires controlling interest of Measure to create Aerodyne Measure

International drone-based managed solutions provider Aerodyne Group has acquired a controlling interest in the services business of aerial intelligence company Measure. Known as Aerodyne Measure, the new, combined business entity will continue serving enterprise clients in North America, providing high quality aerial inspections and data analysis services. Through the agreement, Measure will also get additional funding as it grows its stand-alone software as a service (SaaS) offering, Measure Ground Control, which is an end-to-end software platform for enterprise UAS programs.

Terra Drone Indonesia showcases the advantages of using UAS for pipeline monitoring

Terra Drone Indonesia, a group company of Terra Drone Corporation, recently showcased the advantages of using UAS for pipeline monitoring during a demonstration for Indonesian oil and gas group Medco Energi Internasional Tbk PT in Purwakarta, West Java. The Terra BRAMOR C4EYE UAS, manufactured by Terra Drone group company C-Astral, was used during the demonstration. 

U-ROB's ROBi drone designed for industrial applications

U-ROB, a German drone manufacturer, has developed a drone for industrial applications called ROBi.  “This includes applications such as the inspection of pipelines and combustion chambers in power plants, the inspection of chimneys and the interior of bridge structures as well as the inspection of tanks and sewage pipes,” says Joseph Metz, founder and managing director of U-ROB GmbH. Launched into market earlier this year, ROBi is equipped with an exchange mechanism for different sensors and camera systems, which gives the system a high level of flexibility.

KDOT receives authorization to conduct UAS test flights at Kansas airport

The FAA has granted the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) Division of Aviation authorization to conduct UAS test flights at Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport in Wichita, Kansas beginning Monday, Sept. 16. Several inspection missions are planned, including foreign object detection, wildlife hazard management and airfield emergency response. Operations will be conducted as part of the UAS Integration Pilot Program (IPP). “This FAA approval will significantly improve airport efficiency and safety,” says KDOT Director of Aviation Bob Brock.
