Aurora Flight Sciences to build robotics and integration facility in Manassas, Virginia

On July 26, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam announced that Aurora Flight Sciences will invest more than $13.75 million to expand its operation in the City of Manassas, Virginia, where it is headquartered. Aurora, which was acquired by The Boeing Company last year, plans on building a robotics and integration facility that includes a manufacturing unit, a research and development lab, a hangar, and office space. The project is expected to create 135 new jobs.

FLIR Systems' minority investment in DroneSense to help public safety organizations using UAS

FLIR Systems Inc. has completed a strategic investment in DroneSense, a company that makes a unique software platform that serves the growing needs of public safety organizations in using UAS to better perform their missions. FLIR’s minority investment in DroneSense is expected to create opportunities for the companies to work together and share their respective expertise and customer relationships to “develop and bring to market advanced UAS operating, management, and reporting systems.”

PrecisionHawk says it can use latest funding to 'build upon its lead in the commercial drone space,' among other things

PrecisionHawk, Inc. has announced that it has raised a $75 million round of funding, bringing its total funding to more than $100 million since it was founded in 2010. ​With this investment, PrecisionHawk says that it can “build upon its lead in the commercial drone space,” apply capital to expand its team, focus on product innovation, and make strategic acquisitions. The company says that this is “all part of a broader mission to foster the adoption of commercial drones and capture the global market opportunity.”

AImotive to use new round of funding to further develop its autonomous driving technology

A full-stack autonomous vehicle technology company called AImotive has closed its $38 million USD Series C funding round, which was led by B Capital Group and Prime Ventures, and included participation from several other investors. The new round of funding will be used to continue the development of AImotive’s proprietary autonomous driving technology, which mainly relies on affordable, off-the-shelf camera sensors and artificial intelligence-based vision processing. According to AImotive, its technology is inherently scalable thanks to its “low cost modularity and flexibility,” and it is also open to the “fusion of non-vision based sensors” for extra safety in poor visibility conditions.

UAS tech company Vigilant Aerospace receives investment from The Flying Object

Vigilant Aerospace, which has a product called FlightHorizon for UAS pilots, autopilots and airspace managers, has announced a new investment from The Flying Object (TFO), which is a global venture fund focused on the commercial UAS industry. ​Managed by the global investment firm Kluz Ventures, TFO invests in UAS technology and service companies that are leading the industry.
