Self-driving vehicle startup DeepRoute has raised $50 million in its pre-Series A funding round to expand the global presence of its autonomous driving technologies.

With the funds, DeepRoute will be able to accelerate the research and development of autonomous technologies for passenger vehicles.

“Our team is very excited about the most recent round of funding we have received and how these funds will help further the advancement of autonomous vehicles on our roads,” says Shuang Gao, chief operating officer of DeepRoute.

“Our ongoing research and development of industry technologies will continue to prioritize the safety and security of the public as we strive to bring full vehicle autonomy worldwide.”

DeepRoute specializes in Level 4 autonomous driving technologies. The startup, which has research centers in Shenzhen, Beijing and Silicon Valley, designs comprehensive self-driving technologies including sensors, high-definition mapping and positioning, and machine-learning.

DeepRoute also designs products such as hardware systems, infrastructure, and simulators that perform with precision accuracy.

In addition to working alongside some of the top Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to provide a “Full-stack Self-Driving System,” DeepRoute is also working with automobile manufacturers to offer a self-driving operation fleet. DeepRoute will support vehicle platooning technology to leading OEMs, and during an international sporting event, it will provide a self-driving robo-taxi service.

DeepRoute’s core technology team is made up of experts from universities such as Carnegie Mellon University, Cambridge and Columbia University, and companies such as General Motors, Google, and Intel.
