GENIUS NY has announced that AutoModality, Civdrone, Fotokite, OmniMesh and TruWeather Solutions have raised more than $10 million in additional private investment.
All five of the startups participated in the GENIUS NY accelerator, with AutoModality and Fotokite receiving the $1 million grand prize investment during the accelerator.
“It’s exciting to see these early stage companies start to receive follow-on funding from names like Credit Suisse and ff Venture Capital,” says Jon Parry, director of GENIUS NY.
“Our goal in the accelerator is to get them started with seed investment, help work through their business plans and bring them to the commercial market.”
In the last month, AutoModality, which specializes in advanced UAS flight control software that's used for infrastructure inspection, raised $3.8 million. The startup develops fully-autonomous mobile systems that enhance the “effectiveness, efficiency, and safety” of inspections while reducing future maintenance.
Civdrone, which has developed a device that can be mounted on commercially available UAS for land surveying and marking on construction sites, has raised $500,000. The startup’s technology utilizes a built-in highly accurate real-time kinematic (RTK) GPS system, as well as a mechanism that inserts stakes into the soil for marking.
With a goal of improving the safety and speed of public safety team operations such as fire brigades, Fotokite has raised its Series A while also recently completing a European Commission Horizon 2020 SME Phase 1 Project. The company provides firefighters and first responders with aerial situational awareness information to help them manage difficult, safety-critical situations. Fotokite’s tethered aerial systems are autonomous, which allows public safety teams to spend more time on responding to their missions instead of piloting the UAS.
Known for its patented technology that allows service providers and content owners to efficiently deliver content to subscribers in a “cost-effective, scalable, and secure manner,” OmniMesh has raised $1 million from a SAFE agreement. Omnimesh’s platform enables a variety of entities to “satisfy the growing demand for content,” while also greatly reducing the capital investment and operating costs associated with legacy infrastructure.
Lastly, TruWeather Solutions, which has built a service to improve the precision, accuracy and communication of weather intelligence for UAS, has raised $450,000. The investment will be used to fuel the enhancement and market penetration of TruFliteUAS, which is the company’s micro weather data and business-focused analytic cloud service for the commercial UAS industry.
GENIUS NY notes that these investments build on the ones made to the companies during the GENIUS NY program.
